Yahira DeLeón is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who earned her master’s degree in social work from Stony Brook University in 2019, specializing in Community, Policy, and Political Social Action (CPPSA). She is also credentialed as a Family Development Credential Trainer and Facilitator by the University of Connecticut and certified as a Circle Keeper Facilitator by the National Compadres Network.

With over 25 years of dedicated service to Latino communities on Long Island, Yahira has been a passionate advocate and community leader for immigrant and Latino youth and families. Her extensive experience encompasses community development, mental health support, interventions focused on gender-based violence, gang prevention and intervention, and human trafficking.

 

In her healing practice, she employs a clinical, holistic and ancestral approach, utilizing culturally adaptive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based modalities to support others. Yahira is deeply committed to advocacy, working to raise awareness and educate others to break generational traumas and cycles. She has led numerous workshops and speaking engagements at national conferences and institutions throughout Long Island, New York State and California.

 

Yahira DeLeón's dedication to human trafficking prevention and community development inspired her to establish YJ DeLeón Works Consulting, Inc., where she offers educational initiatives, professional development, and direct services to victims and survivors of human trafficking and gender-based crimes. Through her dba, Transcends, she provides trauma-informed cultural healing circles, counseling groups, individual coaching, classes, and retreats to support individuals and communities in need.

She has served as an active board member of the Hispanic Counseling Center for three years, is the Chairwoman of the Solidaridad InspiraciónAmistad Community Foundation, Inc. and participates in various community coalitions and committees. Outside of her community work, Yahira enjoys crafting as a form of therapy, spending time with her family, caring for her dog Jax, dancing, cooking, and traveling.
